Samsung Galaxy Nexus Android 4.2 update borks Bluetooth & music playback
Platform bump isn’t all smooth sailing.
Android 4.2 Jelly Bean was made available for the last-but-one Nexus kit earlier this week and adds smart features such as a Swype-style keyboard and a swish panorama mode that offers 360-degree photos.
However, it’s also made some less welcome changes to the handset.
According to testimonies from piqued Nexus owners on the XDA Developers forum and Google’s own coding hangout, updating to the 4.2 iteration of Android impairs the handset’s Bluetooth connectivity.
In turn, this is causing stuttering music playback through Bluetooth speakers and other peripherals, which is so bad that one owner claimed it rendered the feature “unusable”.
Interestingly, the upgrade also seems to be causing the issue on the Google Nexus 7 tablet, which was also bumped to Android 4.2 this week, suggesting that the flaw lies with the software.
One of those affected stated: “I'm getting this on a Nexus 7 16gb with a pair of Sennheiser MM100 bluetooth headphones, whether they are connected to both phone and media audio, or when they are connected only to media.
“Happens in every app, as far as I can tell. Audio cuts off for a very long time when connecting to a wifi network, not sure if that is related to the root cause.”
Google has yet to acknowledge the issue. But as soon as we hear anything official out of the search giant, we’ll let you know.
