Every week we cover Android gaming on Wednesday, followed by Android Rookies on Thursday, and Top 10 app updates on Friday. Now every Monday we will look back and see which ones were the most crowd-pleasing among our audience. Read on for the 10 most popular Android apps among your peers from last week.
1. Lemon Wallet
Lemon Wallet allows you to store a digital copy of all of your cards—ID, insurance, loyalty and payment cards—so you can access them whenever you need. The app is free to try out, but most of the premium features require a subscription plan. It looks like a cool finace service, but the app is still rather new and you might want to wait for it to mature a little more.
2. Ovo Timer
Ovo Timer is a basic timer app with a simple interface and voice control built in. It only does one thing, but it does it well as the app has an average review score of 4.7.
3. Dolphin Jetpack
This week Dolphin Browser upgraded to version 9.0 and added support for the Jetpack add-on. This improved webkit version offers the fastest HTML5 performance on Android, which is 5-10X faster than the default Android browser and 2X faster than Chrome.
4. GameShelf
If you play a lot of emulated console games on Android, then GameShelf is the perfect app to organize all your downloaded ROMs. GameShelf automatically finds the box art and description for your games with the press of a finger, and allows you to manually edit them if you want.
5. EyeEm
EyeEm is a photo sharing community similar to Instagram, but it offers several unique features like auto-tagging. They recently redesigned the app with version 3.0 and last week they pushed out a minor update that added support for more devices and improved scrolling. The EyeEm community continues to grow with every release, and we think this is a cool app worth checking out.
6. Shadowgun: Deadzone
Last week Madfinger Games released the open beta for Shadowgun: Deadzone and it’s the only game that made our weekly Top 10 list. The shooter is free to play, but it requires a device with a Tegra 3 chip during the beta period. Even in this early stage, it was already one of the most fun games I have played for Android. It is a must download if you have a Tegra 3 tablet like the Nexus 7, and hopefully it will be coming to more devices soon.
7. Morning Bird Alarm Clock
Last week I shared this app in the Android Rookies column because my brother Clark loves birds, and it turns out quite a few of you in the audience share his passion. This paid app will cost you $0.99, but it’s worth a shot if you are a fan of nature.
8. Sketch Guru
Sketch Guru allows you to capture a picture with your phone or pick one from you gallery and then customize it with 13 unique effects. This is a great app to try out if you want to add some flare to the pictures you share on social networks.
9. MyTrails
MyTrails is a little known app that provides offline topography maps for the outdoors enthusiast. All maps are free to download and the hardware-accelerated map drawing allows smooth and snappy display even with tens of thousands of track points. In-app purchases allow you to subscribe to high-quality, special-purpose maps.
10. TunnelBear VPN
TunnelBear VPN allows you to browse the Internet with privacy and experience the Internet as if you’re living in another country. TunnelBear gives you a hearty amount of free “tunneling” each and every month and you can upgrade your bear and receive unlimited tunneling and even stronger “bear-grade” encryption.
